MWCC has the most comprehensive
portfolio of source control equipment
to cover a broad range of well
characteristics.

MWCC has the most comprehensive portfolio of source control equipment that covers a broad range of well characteristics. The ownership of this system comes with great responsibilities to maintain all pieces of the system in a deployment-ready state and that when deployed, the systems function as intended.

System functionality is assured through a combination of initial equipment demonstrations and periodic functional and pressure tests. Similar to the test flights that NASA conducts on its new space craft prior to a live flying mission, MWCC conducts full field demonstrations of the most critical and complex components of our response system prior to adding them to our portfolio. MWCC has successfully demonstrated the function of our capping stacks and Modular Capture Vessels (MCV) through system deployment overseen by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Investing in maintenance and response readiness remains a core piece of MWCC’s operations. Our preventative maintenance and functional testing programs were designed to meet the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) industry-leading requirements for offshore emergency systems. In total, MWCC manages 22,000 pieces of equipment. Annually, the organization utilizes 80,000 labor hours and performs 800 maintenance procedures on the Containment System, which helps preserve equipment in ready for deployment condition.

More on Maintenance

We practice activation of our Containment System on a continuous basis through participation in upwards of 50 simulated incidents and training events annually. Our activation protocol is simple, members call an activation line and answer a series of questions that allows MWCC to get basic details about the situation. Once activated, MWCC springs into action, mobilizing its core Response Team plus hundreds of additional personnel through our strategic partners with premier service companies in their sectors. The initial focus is to help the Operator assess the situation, and then test and prepare to mobilize our Containment System to shut off the compromised well.
