Houston, TX, May 13, 2014 – Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) announced today that it is partnering with Ingleside Primary School to develop a science lab for their students. An initial donation will be used to build out the school’s science lab, in particular a hatchery and reptile habitat which students will monitor to better understand various stages of the life cycle. As a result of MWCC’s commitment, the school has named its science lab after the company.
“The equipment is intended to help enrich the school’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum,” said MWCC CEO Marty Massey. “We feel it is important to promote STEM education especially at an early age and we are happy to provide Ingleside Primary School with the tools needed to begin to educate students in these disciplines. We look forward to advancing our relationship with the school in the future.”
“Bringing science into our students’ hands to create meaningful experiences is our goal,” expressed Kim Alamo, Principal at Ingleside Primary. “All students fully engage in science when it is real, connects to their world and when they have experts like MWCC modeling its purpose. Thanks to MWCC, our newly developed science lab will encourage students to pursue exciting opportunities in the scientific world and embrace a love for science.”
MWCC’s donation follows an Earth Day event at the school where 13 MWCC staff members helped students – pre-kindergarten to first grade – plant trees and flowers to encourage “being responsible” and stress the importance of protecting the earth. An MWCC representative also spoke to the students about how the company acts responsibly by safeguarding the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
MWCC houses equipment to outfit the company’s modular capture vessels (MCVs) in Ingleside, Texas. The equipment, which includes modular processing facilities for the MCVs and the centerpiece of the containment system, the capping stacks, will be stored, maintained and tested at Kiewit Offshore Services. MWCC’s partnership with Ingleside Primary School reaffirms the company’s commitment to being a responsible community partner.
